Do schools need a transformation? Pasi Sahlberg, Jordan Baker and Greg Ashman

On Tuesday evening, I took part in a discussion about the future of Australian schools with Pasi Sahlberg. Jordan Baker, education editor of the Sydney Morning Herald, was asking the questions.

When I open this link it jumps to random places in the video. I’m not sure why. You may need to scroll back to the start.

Worked well for me Greg. Some very insightful thinking of our current situation and the realities of some of the functions of education as they are. These being improved to better match students to academic pathways, like the UK model sounds good to me.
“Romantic notion of assessment” completely agree, and stress is absolutely a part of the human experience that drives change and motivates, if, like any emotion we teach children how to regulate and manage these with tools and guidance.

You where impressive Greg. Clearly much better rehersed and on point.

Is Jordan normally this good as well? An informed media professional really does make a difference.

    • Thank you. Yes, Jordan was thoroughly prepared. Jordan Baker, Rebecca Urban and Henrietta Cooke, who has just returned from maternity leave, are all excellent Australian education journalists ie they know the brief. Rob Bolton at the AFR is also good.
